"Confronting the Fearful Free Throw"

I decided to tryout for basketball not to long ago
Who would have known the hardest part was shooting a free throw
I haven't played basketball since fifth grade but with much practice
I was hoping I'll end up playing like Dwyane Wade

Mackenzie offered to help me the Saturday before tryouts
to teach me how to shoot
I needed all the help I could get so Coach Millan wouldn't give me the boot
She told me my arms weren't everything and that bending my knees
was the key to shooting a three

The next trial was perfecting my foul shot
which made my stomach turn around in knots
This time she told me to have my feet facing the hoop and
to thrust the ball up in a upward motion
"swoosh!"
When I made the shot, I was filled with joy and happy emotions
This taught me that with assistance and persistence
you can go the further distance in accomplishing your goal.

"Fighting against time during Sandy"

Currently I'm with my friends trying to survive this hurricane
Please God help us before we go insane
This assignment is due at 11:59
But it's so hard to rhyme at this time

This hurricane is so unexpected
It's such a shame that so many people were effected
But honestly all I'm worried about is my grade
which is so selfish because so many people are in the need of aid

My friends are helping me rhyme, so I can send this assignment on time
If Mrs. Collentine thinks I'm procrastinating... now that's a real crime
Now that I'm thinking about it, there's no WiFi
So how am I suppose to send this poem out?
I start to pout but my friends assure me I'll find a way, no doubt

It's eight o' clock and it's pitch black outside
I have to get ready for Mackenzie to give me a ride
I pray my classmates are safe and that Sandy will subside.
